BLACK OUT DAY 2020
Today is BLACK OUT DAY 2020. Black Out Day was started by social media personality Calvin Martyr. He created a video and Facebook page calling out social injustice and the disparities with institutional policies in America. The Blackout Coalition was formed to bring awareness and highlight the importance of the Black American dollar. Black Out Day 2020 is an economic protest. The purpose of this day is for Blacks (along with other minorities/allies) to exercise their spending power by not spending money in the economy. If we must spend money today we should support Black Owned Businesses. Black Americans contribute the most when it comes to economic spending. According to CNN Business in 2018 Black Americans spent more than $1 trillion on consumer goods (CNN Business). The Blackout Coalition is requesting solidarity today by not spending a single dollar and demanding justice for the countless lives taken by racism in America. I’m participating today, because it’s important now more than ever to ignite change. Today I plan on supporting as many BOBs as I can, or I won’t spend a dime. Being Black in America is exhausting. It’s tiring, but now is not the time to let up. When we stand together we create history. When we stand together we shift the entire frequency. Our voices are powerful now let’s see the magnitude of our dollars. Today, I urge you to participate in BLACK OUT DAY 2020. If you’re an ally I urge you to support and encourage others as well. I urge you for ONE day to put your money back into the black community. I’ve linked the Blackout Directory below, which provides an extensive list of black businesses to share and support.
