5 WAYS TO PRACTICE CONSISTENCY

“Six months of hardcore focus and alignment can put you five years ahead in life.  Don’t underestimate the power of consistency.”

We hear about consistency all the time and how important it is. You can literally go from average to amazing just by simply being consistent. It’s so important to work on your craft, develop a routine, and show up for yourself ever single day. I truly believe this is the key to success. It also produces some of the best results. Today I’m sharing five tips to practice consistency.

  1. JUST DO IT: I know this is easier said than done, but honestly it’s the most important tip.  When you know there’s work to be done do it immediately. Don’t make excuses.  Don’t let second thoughts come to mind, which will distract you.  Simply just get started. Allot time in each day to work on your goal. I recommend dedicating at least 30 mins-1hr each day and get started.
  2. PLAN/SCHEDULE:  Whether your goal is to consistently post on social media or consistently work on your business plan whatever your goal is do not aimlessly pursue it.  Planning allows you to have a clear idea of what you want to accomplish.  For example, in order for me to consistently post on my Instagram I plan out my outfits for the week, photoshoots, determine how content will show up on my feed/edit, and I create captions to go along with my photos/blog posts. I dedicate time within my week to accomplish each of these tasks. I set aside a few hours (typically 3-4 hours) to pair outfits with accessories and determine how I want to incorporate them in my feed. I also plan out my photoshoots (typically 1 hour/week) and take time to research areas where I want to shoot. I practice different poses to prepare my shoots too. I set aside approximately 1-2 hours/day to edit content, create captions, and determine which days I plan on posting (I never aimlessly post).  I try to be realistic when planning, so I only plan for a week in advance.  I find that planning too far in advance can become overwhelming.  I like to use apps such as UNUM and Planoly to help plan/schedule out my content. It makes it so much easier for me to be consistent on Instagram when I already have an idea of what I’m sharing and the days/times my content will go live.
  3. PERFECTION IS NOT ATTAINABLE:  I often hear one of the biggest reasons someone isn’t consistent is because they’re trying to be perfect.  We all know perfection isn’t attainable, but what I’ve found is the more consistent one becomes the better their content becomes.  I’m a believer in learning as you go.  I’ve posted consistently on my platforms for years and I’m still learning new things.  To be quite honest.  If I waited until my content was perfect I probably would have never posted at all.  Do the best you can. Continue to do research. Reach out for help, but don’t use perfection as an excuse. After all it’s not about perfection. It’s about progression.
  4. COMPLETE ONE TASK AT A TIME:  When working towards your goals make sure that you’re focusing on one thing at a time.  When we try to accomplish too many things at once it can become overwhelming and we may not see results.  I recommend challenging yourself to work on one task each day.  Learn and research new things about the  task and once you’ve been successful add an additional tasks/goals. Being consistent isn’t always easy, but let’s not make it even harder by adding too much on our plates at once.
  5. REMEMBER YOUR WHY:  Remember why you started in the first place.  When things get challenging focus on what your original intentions were. It’s so much easier to not give up than it is to quit and start over again.  If your why is always in the back of your mind it will push you to keep going. I started blogging because I wanted to encourage women to be themselves. I also wanted to encourage millennial christians to live life, but keep God at the center.  I keep my “why” in the back of my mind.  Whenever I feel discouraged or unmotivated I remember why I started.  It reminds me that I have to push through, because I never know who might be inspired by my work. Your audience is watching and they are counting on you to show up for yourself every single day.

Consistency is hard at first, but I believe that with time it will truly become a habit.  I’m challenging you to pick a goal this week to consistently work on it.  Plan/schedule it out and work towards accomplishing it everyday.  I promise you the results will be rewarding. You got this!!  Have a great day loves.
