Being a creator is awesome. I get to use my imagination to come up with cool makeup looks and I even get to share my creativity through my blog posts. I absolutely love it, but sometimes as a creator I am uninspired. Sometimes, I just can’t seem to think of anything original to post or share with my audience. It can be hard to remain original or authentic as a creator, which is why I am constantly searching for inspiration.
For me, inspiration is everywhere. Whenever I’m feeling uninspired, I’ll typically listen to music. It’s my number one source for inspiration. It’s random, but I’ll hear a song or think of lyrics and all of a sudden there’s a blog post, like ‘LOYALTY! LOYALTY! LOYALTY!’ (got that from Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna). Music gives me all sorts of vibes, which is why I draw inspiration from it the most. It can be challenging to find inspiration (especially as a blogger), which is why I’m sharing a few tips that might help you.
Inspiration is everywhere: Sometimes you just have to look around. It can be the simplest thing, like a Billboard on your drive home, or a random quote on Pinterest (Pinterest is my jam). Inspiration can even come from another creator, or artist. Sometimes, I’m inspired by situations that I’m dealing with, or even conversations that I’ve had. I promise you, inspiration is really everywhere. You just have to pay close attention to the things that are around you and be open to finding it.
Research popular topics: Everyday there’s something new to discuss. Whether it’s the latest fashion trends, makeup techniques, politics, sports like the NBA ROY (Rookie of the Year Award; I want Donovan Mitchell to win, btw), Cardi B’s new album, the list goes on and on. Popular issues and topics can be inspiring, because they are relevant to your audience, and can also strike a discussion amongst other people. I love sharing my interest on popular issues on my social media platforms, because it allows me to draw inspiration from my followers.
Try something new: I like to think that I’m a creature of habit, but every once in a while I have to step out of my comfort zone to find inspiration. Changing my scenery always helps. Whenever I need an extra creative push, I like to try a new restaurant or check out a new hangout spot. This is great, because it allows me have new experiences and meet new people. Sometimes, I’ll listen to a new radio station, or a new artist and it inspires me. I’l also even visit a new church for inspiration. It’s always great when you can switch things up a bit, because you never know what the outcome will be.
Take a break: When all else fails, I usually just take a break. We always hear people talk about how consistency is key with almost everything that we do (I’m a firm believer in consistency), but it’s okay to take a break every now in then. I think it’s great to take a step back and unwind. Now, when I say “a break” I don’t mean months or a year off. I mean a few days, or even maybe a week or two. I find it helpful when I take my mind off the task sometimes and focus my energy towards something else. Whenever I have trouble creating new blog posts, I usually focus my energy on makeup or another personal interest of mine. Sometimes, we just need to regroup and the inspiration will come to us. Breaks are great, as long as they don’t become a permanent thing.
Whatever it is that you do, I challenge you to constantly seek inspiration. I challenge you to draw inspiration from the things that are around you, whether it’s a new experience or a life situation. Inspiration is everywhere. We just have to be willing a open to find it.
