“BG” FRIENDLY FOUNDATIONS
I am a fan of liquid foundations, but I’ve noticed that it is somewhat difficult for me to find color options that match my skin tone. I get disappointed when I see a new product and want to try it, but there’s hardly any colors for brown girls. I am a self-proclaimed “makeup enthusiast.” I’ve tried a lot of different foundations in my life, so I’ve decided to share some of my favorite high-end and drugstore liquid foundations that are “brown girl” friendly, but work great on any skin tone.
-
L’oreal Infallible: This is my absolute favorite drugstore foundation. I honestly think that it competes with any high-end foundation on the market. I am so in love with it. I have oily skin, so I tend to wear matte foundations more often than dewy. This matte foundation is so perfect. It claims to last 24-hours, which I’m not too sure of (since I never wear makeup for 24-hours), but I can say that it lasts all day. I love the matte finish that it gives, and I also love how it’s full coverage. I don’t have to reapply my makeup during the day whenever I have this foundation on. I am in the shade 112 Cocoa.
-
L’oreal True Match: This is the first liquid foundation that I ever purchased, and it works really great for normal to combination skin. I love how the color options are endless. This foundation is medium coverage, so I would suggest applying a setting powder or foundation powder afterwards. It is great for days when you don’t want a complete “beat” face. The ‘True Match’ foundation is really light and easy to apply. I am in the shade N8 Cappuccino.
-
Kat Von D “Lock-It-Tattoo” Foundation: The original formula is posted in the pictures above (I plan on purchasing the new formula soon). This foundation is “extremely” matte. I say that it is “extremely” matte, because it can be a bit drying on my skin. I like it a lot, but I will admit that it takes a lot of work to apply (I usually apply this foundation using a damp beauty blender). The one thing that I really like about this foundation is that it is the perfect shade. When I tested it at Sephora, it was spot on. The consistency can be a little thick, which makes it a little difficult to apply, but once you’ve found the perfect technique you will fall in love like I did. I am in the shade 74 Deep.
-
Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless: This is the perfect medium to full coverage matte foundation. I really like how light it is, and how easy it is to apply. The matte finish is really nice, but I do find that my t-zone gets a little oily during the day (which is normal). I have to reapply (the foundation) or apply a powder a few times during the day. I really enjoy the consistency of the foundation, and find that it is easy to use in the morning. Recently, I’ve seen that new shades have been added to the collection, so I’m excited to try them out. I am in the shade 355 Coconut.
-
Estee Lauder Double Wear: I saved the best for last! This is my holy grail foundation. I am so in love with Double Wear. To me, this is the best foundation on the market. I can go on and on about how much I love it (I won’t bore you lol). This foundation is a matte finish, and it is full coverage. The consistency is really light, but not watery. It applies well with any makeup tool that I use. I prefer to apply this with a stippling brush (preferably by Sedona Lace). I like how I can easily toss the bottle in any makeup bag of mine. The bottle size is perfect, so you can pack it in your carry on, or in your luggage. I’ll admit that since I’ve purchased the ‘Double Wear’ foundation, I haven’t tried any other high-end foundation (I’ll give in and try something new soon). I was pretty excited to see that there are a lot of shades to choose from in this line. I am in the color Rich Chestnut.
Here’s a few pics with liquid foundation.
I know that it can be a little challenging trying to find the perfect foundation, especially for us brown girls, so I encourage you to keep testing the waters. You may not find one perfect shade, but you can always mix and match colors to get the best look for you. I hope that you’ll find this post to be helpful the next time you’re on the hunt for a liquid foundation. What are some of your favorite liquid foundation brands?
